Used Cycling Gear Drive

NorCal High School Cycling LeagueThe FSB Cycling Team will be participating in a used cycling gear drive through February 1, 2013 to help benefit the Nor Cal High School MTB League (http://www.norcalmtb.org/).  We are accepting donations of used cycling gear, road and mountain:  old kits, clothing, helmets, shoes, and bike parts. The Nor Cal MTB League is based in Petaluma but have teams all over Northern CA.  They expect to see a 35% growth in the league this year and can really put used gear to good use.  There are a high number of kids on scholarship who are not financially able to properly outfit themselves.  Items can be dropped off at the Wednesday Night Crit practice (check the calendar page for info) or a drop off can be arranged by sending a message using the contact form on this site.  Thanks for your help!

1st Annual Christmas Light Night Ride

presented by Romeo Medical Clinic

With a full schedule of racing just around the corner, and the rush of the holidays upon us, we thought it would be fun to slow things down a bit and put together a fun ride that celebrates the season and focuses on that pure joy we get when we ride our bikes.  In addition to encouraging the development of advanced skills and fitness needed for competition and racing among club members, it is also part of the club’s mission statement to encourage cycling as a sport for fitness, health and enjoyment within the community.

DATE:  Thursday, December 13, 2012

TIME: 6:30pm

WHERE:  Meet at the Tower Health and Wellness Center, located at 1801 Colorado Ave. Turlock, CA.  Park in the back lot (behind the building) and we’ll leave from there.

WHAT:  This will be a fun, casual, social ride for CdV members and their families (spouses, kids, etc).  We’d love to see our sponsors and their families come out too.  Road bikes, mountain bikes, cross bikes…all are welcome! I think we may even have a bike trailer or two being towed by club members. We will meander through the streets of Turlock and enjoy the festive lights around town.  This is not a ride about miles and speed…it is about family, friends, celebrating the season, and enjoying the ride.  Remember, this is a night ride (which are a lot of fun), so don’t forget your lights!  Also, since there will be kids on the ride, some of us will be adding a few extra festive touches to our bikes and attire to make it more memorable.  This ride is all about healthy fun! Don’t forget to wear your kits too.

SOMETHING EXTRA: After the ride, Romeo Medical Clinic, one of our generous sponsors, will be providing hot cocoa and treats in the RMC Work Wellness office located in Suite 130.

ROUTE:  A few of the CdV women rode last night and scouted possible routes.  Karin will be working out the final one, which will be available before next week.

Congratulations to Jim Pyatt

How ma6-12-24 Hour World Time Trial Championshipsny miles can you ride in 24 hours?  Ciclistas del Valle member Jim Pyatt knows how many he can ride – 416.5!

On November 2-3, he competed in the 6-12-24 Hour World Time Trial Championships in California’s Coachella Valley.  Racing was a non-drafting, time trial format, where riders tried to rack up as many miles as possible on an extremely flat and fast course.  The event drew endurance athletes from all over the world, inlcuding Slovenia, United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and the United States.  Field sizes doubled over the inaugural year and the 24 hour race is a UMCA World Cup event and RAAM Qualifier.

Congratulations to Jim on a great race. His official results:

• 1st place in his men’s age group
• 416.5 Miles
• Average Speed – 18.3 mph
• 7th Overall
• 4th American
