This is the last week to submit applications to join the FSB Cycling Team! That’s right, since our 2nd and final JL Velo clothing order closes on March 1st, we must receive applications this week (before the 1st) in order to process them and get your kit sizing details. We’ve already added a few more members and our race team continues to grow…now is the time, don’t miss out! The next membership drive won’t be until October. Apps can be DOWNLOADED HERE!

Richard Del Valle Makes the Snelling Podium!

The team had another great weekend of racing with at least 16 men and women in multiple fields at the Snelling Road Race on Saturday, February 21st.  For two members, Gary Devine and Suzanne DeLeon, it was their first ever road race – way to go! Congratulations to Cat 1 Richard del Valle on his 3rd place finish in the 45+ 1/2/3 field.  It was an ultra competitive field with close to 100 riders and he was in a 3 man break that stayed away the entire race. It was an impressive ride by one of our newest FSB Cycling Team members! He also had three other FSB team mates, Perry Johnson, Alan Nevin and Doug Vrieling, in the peloton working hard to cover attacks. Rich is also one of our team sponsors this year – Next Level Performance (NLP) – and is currently the personal coach of quite a few FSB racers.  Thanks to everyone who made it out to Snelling this weekend, raced, and helped out the team!

A Great Weekend of Racing for FSB!

There was a lot of racing going on this past weekend!  It kicked off on Saturday at the Folsom Winter Criterium with Doug Vrieling, Perry Johnson, Mike Miller and Albert Coble getting in on the action.  The fun continued on Sunday at the Copper Town Square Circuit Race where close to 20 men and women from the Funsport Bikes Cycling Team raced in a day that saw many podium and Top 10 finishes across fields, including 2nd place finishes from Christophe Butterworth in the 35+/5’s and Michael Wilkins in the 45+/4’s.  Speaking of that 45+/Cat 4 race…there were 7 FSB racers in that field attacking, taking flyers, and working together the whole race.  An excellent display of what team work is, and as you’ll see below, the results were awesome!  It was nice to see four Cat 4 women out racing as well, they made up 1/5 of their field and had two Top 10 finishes as well. What was just as great as seeing the fields filled with the new FSB kits, was the tremendous support we received from non-racing team members who spent the day in Copperopolis cheering everyone on, snapping photos (thank you Joey Giva, Dan Leitner, JC Cox and others out with cameras) and enjoying the well stocked team tent area, beautiful weather and camaraderie. I think it’s safe to say that a great time was had by all.  There were also FSB colors flying in Southern California this weekend with Dave Simons competing in a huge field of 75 at the Ice Sportswear Criterium and coming in 5th place!  Watch for him to be upgrading to Cat 4 very soon.  Full results are posted at USA Cycling, but below are some of yesterday’s highlights from Copper Town.

Congratulations to Alan Nevin, who took 1st place this past Sunday, February 8th, in the 45+ 3/4 field at The Bump Circuit Race in Livermore! He raced smart all day and had an amazing uphill sprint finish.  Way to represent FSB and start off the year! Team Photo Day March 1st!

Hello CdV! Please mark your calendars now for our Team Photo Day.  This is the yearly photo we take in our NEW KITS in front of FSB, our title sponsor.  This year it is scheduled for Sunday, March 1 at 8am at FSB.  There will be a team ride immediately following and John K will be posting details about the route soon.  We’re happy that member Ray Prevost will once again be doing the photo shoot for us – thank you again!  We want to look as consistent as possible so please wear only the new, current kit (shorts and jersey).  There will be no hats or sunglasses in the photo. This is an all-team photo, so please make every effort to be there! Please send questions directly to Doug V at dvrieling@gmail.com.

A Second Chance to Join the FSB Cycling Team!

The FSB Cycling Team (Ciclistas del Valle) experienced record growth this year, close to a 25% increase, with a current membership at 116.  Our racing roster greatly expanded this year with 8 racers on the Cat 1-3 squad, over 20 Cat 4 men, and more than 20 Cat 5 men.  FSB also has one of the largest women’s teams in the area, now 34 strong with a growing contingent of active and developing racers.  In addition to a large road racing group, many members also ride and race MTB and cyclocross and a large percentage also compete in duathlons and triathlons.  If you know someone who has been thinking about joining the FSB Cycling Team, but missed out on the October membership drive, they are in luck! Our new kit has been so popular with members that we’ve opened up our JL Velo team store for a 2nd order. If they submit an application now they’ll be able to get in on the last clothing order of this membership year. The store will close on March 1, so make sure they don’t delay. DOWNLOAD AN APPLICATION NOW. If there are any questions contact Doug V at dvrieling@gmail.com.

A Big Weekend of Racing Coming Up!

The 2015 race season kicks into high gear this weekend with racing on both days!  Saturday, February 7th is the Knight’s Ferry Road Race, the first FSB Team Focus Race of 2015.  On Sunday, February 8th, the action continues at “The Bump” Circuit Race in Livermore, Event #1 in the Red Kite Omnium.  The FSB Cycling Team has many racers in multiple fields on the 7th and 8th.  If you aren’t riding, racing or attending the FSB Skills Clinic (also this weekend, on Feb. 8), come on out and cheer the team on!  Can’t wait for the race reports to come rolling in – it should be an epic weekend. Good luck everyone!

Online Registration for the Feb. 8 Skills Clinic Closes Tomorrow!

Online registration for the Sunday, February 8th Funsport Bikes Skills Clinic presented by John Cheetham of Performance Cycle Coaching closes tomorrow (Friday 2/6/15). The priority registration period for members has ended and registration has now been opened up to cyclists outside of CdV/Funsport Bikes Cycling Team. Please see the flyer below and the USAC Reg page for complete details. You must register in advance online ($35) and have a USAC license or purchase a one-day license (CdV members in good standing will be reimbursed for the cost of a one-day license if they had to purchase one to register). FEB. 8 SKILLS CLINIC UPDATE

There are still open spots for the upcoming Skills Clinic with John Cheetham of Performance Cycle Coaching. It will be held Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Sierra View Elementary School in Oakdale, CA from 8am-2pm.  It is geared to improve your cornering, descending, pack skills, sprinting and get you ready for the upcoming racing/riding season. This is an amazing opportunity for our members, one we hope you don’t miss out on.  It doesn’t matter if you’ve been riding for one year, five years, or more…you will take away valuable skills from this clinic that will make you a better and safer rider. And because this is a USA Cycling sanctioned and approved rider education clinic, you will receive upgrade races or points depending on your current category.

All participants must have a valid 2015 USAC License ($70) or purchase a one day license for $10.  Upon completion of the clinic, CdV members in good standing, who purchased a one-day license, will be reimbursed for the cost of the one-day license. The cost of the clinic is $35 and YOU MUST REGISTER ONLINE IN ADVANCE at USA Cycling.  Coffee and danish will be provided in the morning and lunch will be provided in the afternoon. Space is limited to 30 riders and priority status will only be given to CdV members until February 4th, so don’t delay and register today!  Online registration ends February 6th.

A second clinic, with the same instructional format and content, will be held March 7, 2015, for those who may be racing on Feb. 8th.  Please direct all questions regarding the clinic to the FSB Event Coordinator, Debbie Sommerfeld, at debbiesommerfeld@gmail.com.  Thanks and see you there!
