Congrats to Dan Stock – 1st at HITS Napa Tri!

Congratulations to Dan Stock who took 1st place in his division (Mens 40-44) at the HITS Napa Triathlon this past weekend.  There were 30 competitors in his field and his total time was almost 7 minutes faster than the person who came in 2nd, an impressive win! Two other FSB members also competed in Napa and posted great results – Bruce Tidrick got 15th in the 50-54 division and Jeremy West, competing in his very first triathlon, took 22nd in the 35-39 age group.  Congrats to all and thanks for flying those FSB colors!

It was a great day for FSB at the Copperopolis Road Race! Congrats to Cat 1, Rich Del Valle, on 1st place in the 45+ 1/2/3 field. He and teammates Alan Nevin (9th) and Perry Johnson (15th) demonstrated excellent team work to help secure the win. Megan Ruble also made the podium in the W4 field and got 2nd place and Roger Von Rotz finished 12th in the 55+ 4/5s. A really awesome team showing, way to go!

Megan Ruble Takes 4th Place at Bariani

Another weekend full of racing and riding for the Funsport Bikes Cycling Team.  Seven members headed to the Bariani Road Race this past Sunday, March 15th – James Ruffin, John Kekuewa, Albert Coble, Mike Miller, Perry Johnson, Doug Vrieling and Megan Ruble. From the race reports rolling in, it was a windy day with very some fast lap times.  Everyone raced strong and stayed safe out there. Congratulations to Megan, who raced with 41 other girls in the W4 field and finished in 4th place!

Here We Grow Again!

Thanks to all of the Funsport Bikes Cycling Team members who made it to the Annual Team Photo Day and to our photographer Ray Prevost. We had quite a turnout and enjoyed a great 74 mile ride after the photo shoot!  Amazingly, only a little more than half the team is pictured above. The membership has grown by leaps and bounds this year, with 11 new members joining in the last couple of weeks during our special mid-year membership drive. Total membership is now approaching 130, up from 93 last year! Be on the lookout for a sea of FSB kits at upcoming NCNCA races, the number of active Cat 1-5 racers on the team this year is impressive and it should be a fantastic year for the team! If you’re interested in joining the team next year, watch for recruiting announcements during the summer, we’ll be looking to add more Cat 1-3 racers to our competitive team.  For additional information on the benefits of our supported rider program and the FSB Cycling Team, shoot the Race Team Director, Doug Vrieling, an email at dvrieling@gmail.com.

FSB Womens Team Now 36 Strong!

The FSB Women’s Team has seen tremendous growth this year, from just a handful of women four years ago to 36 this year! The word has definitely been spreading about this amazing group of women – friendly, welcoming, encouraging, and supportive.  The diverse group includes women who compete in road races and criteriums; those who love having fun in the mud and race cyclocross in the fall; sprint, Olympic and Ironman triathletes; distance/endurance cyclists who ride 200 miles for fun and snag CA Triple Crowns; girls who love climbing and have the Death Ride as a yearly goal; and women who just love riding their bikes and enjoy centuries and recreational rides and who want to be the best they can be.  You’ll see members from this squad at NCNCA races this year – there are many active Cat 4 racers on the team who are excited about racing together this year.  The 24 FSB women pictured above are just a fraction of this outstanding group – now one of the largest women’s cycling groups in NorCal!

2015 Supported Riders

The members featured above were selected to the Supported Rider Program for the 2015 race season. These riders have committed to a significant amount of racing this season. We wish all of the supported riders, as well as the many other dedicated racers on the Funsport Bikes Cycling Team, much luck in the upcoming season and know you will all represent our generous sponsors and the Ciclistas del Valle Cycling Club well!

March 7th Skills Clinic with John Cheetham

A little rain didn’t stop members from attending our first skills clinic of the year with John Cheetham of Performance Cycle Coaching on February 8th.  We heard all kinds of positive feedback from attendees who enjoyed learning valuable skills from an experienced and well respected racer and cycling coach.  Good news…the second clinic is rapidly approaching on Saturday, March 7th, 2015 and there are still open spots remaining!  The Racing Skills Clinic will help you improve your cornering, descending, pack skills, and sprinting and get you ready for the riding/racing season.  You must register in advance online at USA Cycling.  The cost of the skills clinic is only $35 and includes not only a half day of instruction, but also coffee and pastries in the morning and lunch in the afternoon.  It will be held at Sierra View Elementary School in Oakdale, CA from 8:00am – 2:00pm. You must have a current USAC license or purchase a one-day license for $10.  As an added bonus, CdV members in good standing, who must purchase a one-day license to attend, will be reimbursed the $10 1-day license fee after completion of the clinic.  Space is limited to 30 participants, so don’t delay and sign up today, online registration closes on March 5th!  Download the skills clinic flyer here.
